Whew!  You’ve finally got your website launched.  Celebrations all around. You are now a savvy business owner for choosing the web’s #1 web publishing platform,  WordPress CMS.  This is the one that all of the big boys and people in “the know” use and it’s going to launch your web presence into the 21st Century.  You are going to start kicking some serious butt online.

But wait a minute. Now it’s been weeks, or maybe even months and nothing is happening. Sure, it looks great, but it’s not doing anything. Why isn’t the phone ringing? Why isn’t anyone contacting me?  Where is the traffic? It’s just laying there. Is this all that it does?

I’ve got news for you. It’s not going to “do” anything. Not because you’ve been had. WordPress is certainly an amazing publishing platform and all of those things that you’ve heard about it are absolutely true, and more. But what it isn’t is an automated, artificial intelligence that can read your mind, analyze the web, and then goes out on the net announcing your business to your target audience at the exact moment that they are all online.

Social Networking Icons on your website. Use them or loose them.

They are the modern day  accessory for any website these days (or so one would think)  and one of the first things that clients tell me that they want on their new website.  “Oh yeah, and we want those little social media icons like the other websites have, for our social profiles”.

I’m talking about those highly recognized, many times customized,  social networking and social bookmarking icons. You know, the little Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Digg, and other logos that proclaim to the world that your company is “social” in every sense of the word.

Just about every website has them like some kind of badge of honor shouting to the world that you are indeed up with the times. With it. Progressive. Up on all the latest advances and promotion techniques of the intrawebs. There’s no moss on your company because you are always sticking and moving to keep up with the latest trends.

Unfortunately, many times what you are projecting is just the opposite.
